All We Have Is Now Kiki Ball & Drag Show x Aparaaditehas
On January 17, Aparaaditehas (Kastani St 42, Tartu) will host a street dance, queer, and ballroom community subculture event — the Vogue Ball competition “All We Have Is Now” Kiki Ball. Supported by Aparaaditehas’ open cultural platform, the project is aimed at members of the queer community and street dance practitioners of all ages, and a wider audience interested in fashion, dance, beauty, and the arts. Ballroom is a queer subculture combining dance, fashion, and performance, originating from the Black and Latinx communities of New York.
The event will begin at 12:00 with a free panel discussion on ballroom culture at Kogo Gallery, followed in the evening at 18:00 in the Armastuse Hall by the kiki ball and drag show. Participants will arrive from across the Baltic states and beyond, and the competition will be judged by internationally renowned judges from Finland, Sweden, and Ukraine.
The event is organized by the youth group Tartu Ballroom Scene in collaboration with Aparaaditehas. “A Vogue ball is a wonderful community event where participants express themselves across various dance and non-dance categories. The ball is open to everyone who wishes to compete or simply experience a unique subculture,” commented project manager Hanna Mändmaa.
On January 18, from 11:00 to 14:30, workshops in Runway, Old Way, and Vogue Fem will take place at Tartu Dance Academy (Narva mnt 2, Tartu), led by the guest judges.
Supporters: Red Bull, Blender, Hektor Hostels, Seksuaaltervise Nõuandla, MTÜ Sillamäe Edukad Noored, Marmiton, Heavenly Lemonade, Kogo Gallery, Sähv OÜ, Beautiful Me Rullmassaaž.
