What is Ballroom?
Ballroom was created by black and latin trans women back in Harlem, New York in the late 1960s, due to racism they faced within the white pageant scene. Ballroom is an underground subculture by and for the BIPOC LGBTQ+ community and it is a competition where participants walk different categories in beauty, sex, fashion and performance. If you are not from the community, please be considerate of the space you take up. If you want to take part, it's a good idea to learn about the different categories first. If you have any questions, please contact the organiser and they will help you. No sexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, ableism, body shaming or any kind of discrimination.

Ballroom Vocabulary:
LSS: Legends, stars & statements
OTA: open to all
FQ: (fem queen): trans woman
BQ: ( butch queen): gay cis man
TM: Trans man
FF (female figure): trans woman, drags, cis woman
MF (male figure): transman, butch queen, butch, cis man
NB: non binary
GNC: Gender non confirming
GP: grand prize
Effect: outfit/look
10's: if you get your 10's, you will continue to the battles.
Chop: being cut from the category.
Shade: to throw attitude and indirect insults
