WORKSHOP // Early learning German for families

First contact with a foreign language? When and how to start? Why is an early start important? Isn't it too much for a young child? There are bound to be more questions ...

Come and discover the world of early German with your children, with playful and exciting activities led by Helen Tammelehe (Tartu Lutheran Peetri School) and Heidi Rajamäe-Volmer (Tartu Catholic Education Centre), both teachers active in the field in Tartu. Helen Aedla, Head of the Language Department of the Goethe Institute, will be in the discussion group with parents.

And, of course, there will be a surprise guest - this time our very own lovely Tartu actress Maarja Jakobson, who will take the children to the fairytale world of the Brothers Grimm.

And for those who still have energy and stamina left, there is the chance to get acquainted with the mini-books. Come and find out what it's all about!

EARLY FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING
The Goethe Institute in Estonia, as the leader of the Early German project, has believed in early beginnings for many years and, in cooperation with its partners, has contributed. Children's natural and spontaneous behaviour, their openness and curiosity, their thirst for new skills and knowledge, and their ability to be fascinated by them are ideal prerequisites. Through singing and chanting, through play and storytelling, it learns the sounds and rhythms of language, compares it with its mother tongue, finding many similar words, and becomes part of another culture through different traditions, customs and traditions, thereby valuing its own. Probably the best way to support your children's development as multilingual and multicultural, to be open and tolerant towards the different. Of course, one condition must be fulfilled: the success of any language learning, and especially of early foreign language learning, depends on a safe environment, based on the child's individuality, where they are given time to open up when and in the way that suits them.

Family Day is part of the Ministry of Curiosity programme.
Ministry of Curiosity | 29.04.-11.05.2024
At the end of April, the Goethe-Institut will open the "Ministry of Curiosity" in Tartu.
