EXHIBITION // Olena Hnatiuk "Labyrinth: 12 Cracks of the Soul"

On March 1 at 5:30 p.m., we will open the personal exhibition of Ukrainian artist OLENA HNATIUK "Labyrinth: 12 Cracks in the Soul" as part of Gallery Night vol 12.

The exhibition features a series of self-exploratory digital illustrations based on personal experiences of the artist. They describe the states into which we unwittingly plunge and from which it's sometimes difficult to get out through the labyrinth of the inner world.
12 different stories contain moments of pain, betrayal, loneliness and the experience of death, but also symbolize hope, self-transcendence and rebirth.

The illustrations doesn’t reflect only the inner universe, but also encounters and lessons that shape the understanding of oneself and the world around us and the path to understanding and harmony.

Artist statement:
“Creating is an integral part of my life. It's the language I can use to talk to the world.
I like to experiment with colors and different materials, learn new things and explore myself through different sensations and techniques.
It's hard to put into words what painting means to me. Sometimes it´s an extremely difficult process. I like bright colors, especially the combination of sharp contrasts. I rarely know exactly what I want to portray. Most of the time, my stories are created during work. but they're always about my feelings and experiences.
Painting has become a place where I can hide from the outside world.
Besides painting, I really like computer graphics. In illustrations, I look for dynamics, distortions of proportions and interesting compositions. I am constantly looking for something new and interesting.
I have participated in more than 30 exhibitions
My pictures are in private collections in Ukraine, USA, Sweden and Germany.”

The exhibition in the R gallery can be viewed during the opening hours of the Karud ja Pojad studio store from March 1 to April 27, 2024
Exhibition is supported by Eesti Kultuurkapital and Tartu Kultuurkapital
